Discovering Green Lantern

For a while now I’ve wanted to get into Green Lantern, but the problem with these long running series is that there is such a rich history in the mythos and in the characters so it’s hard to find a place to start.
I picked up Green Lantern #1 and #2 and my local comic shop, Chris’ Cards & Comics, but I realized that there had to be something before that - and I was told by the store employee that Green Lantern: Rebirth is a good place to start and get you ready for the story going forward.

“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” Book Report

The saying is “never judge a book by it’s cover,” but I think it’s also important to never judge a book by it’s title. In the case of “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” I literally bought this book because of the ridiculous, silly title.
And was surprised and pleased and just how “un-ridiculous” this book was.

“KICK-ASS” Book Report

I am still very new, very “green” when it comics to the world of comics, but I know that I want to learn more and I want to become more involved with it. I used to just go to a neighboring Public Library and get books there, but I’ve also started hitting my local Comic Book Store as well to start buying books and building a library of my own.
This weekend however, I picked up a bunch of books at the library so I had things to read while visiting the in-laws in Laconia, NH. With so many of the most famous books/characters having huge catalogs with rich histories, it’s nice to be able to pick up books that you can start from the beginning - or better yet, read in one collection.
Kick-Ass is one of those books.

“Batman/Superman: Public Enemies” Book Report

I found this book on the shelf at Memorial Hall Library in Andover, MA - and yes I go to public libraries and take out comic books even though I am in my 30s. It pulled me in with the fact that it had my two favorite superheroes on the cover - Batman (my favorite since since the ‘89 film) and Superman (my favorite since I became obsessed with Smallville in 2005).
I seem to remember there was a animated show or movie with the same title. I thought maybe this was an adaptation of it. I was happy to later read the book came first. The collection I read is the first story arc of the “Superman/Batman” book that came out in 2003. An animated movie of this storyline was released in 2009.
